Between 2005 and 2008, IBI/DAA Group was responsible for the design and implemention of two kilometres of linear park along this river. In 2009, we were asked to take charge of the enhancement of the last urban section of the Saint-Charles River between the Scott to Marie-de-l’Incarnation bridges, including two footbridges. This $2 million plus project involved restoring the banks of the river, creating fauna habitats, and integrating riverfront cycle and pedestrian paths.
The narrowness of the waterfront public domain, inclined topography in places, and erosion control during construction were the key challenges facing the landscape architects. Concrete walls were replaced by banks lined with indigenous plants. Wood and recessed lighting was used for boardwalk on spiral piles. The old lampposts were recycled as supports for works of art.
