Situated on the periphery of the University of Calgary, the landscape of the Energy, Environment and Experiential Learning (EEEL) Building was designed by O2 Planning + Design and completed in 2012. The LEED Gold project combines an artistic landscape inspired by regional geological features and natural vegetation, with urban, pedestrian-oriented plazas. The design incorporates a prominent pedestrian road crossing, rain gardens and landscape features that provide tactile, experiential learning opportunities. O2’s unique approach to placemaking demonstrates their commitment to regionalism and sustainability, addresses the client’s need for high quality outdoor amenity space, and explores the central theme of experiential learning.
