The City of Edmonton needed to develop a Stormwater Management Facility (SWMF) on Mill Creek in a designated natural area (ESA SE5090) in the Roper Industrial Area.
The City’s Natural Areas Coordinator required that the site be restored and that an Ecological Restoration Plan be prepared to meet the Society for Ecological Restoration (SER) Guidelines. Working in collaboration with a local biologist, EIDOS prepared the Ecological Restoration Plan which governed the design, construction, and management of the site.
• Subsequently, contract documents were developed for soil management, constructed wetlands, and terrestrial plant community development, amenities, and interpretive signage.
• Habitat enhancement techniques were employed to manage Canada Geese and mosquitoes. Interpretive signage and viewpoints accompany low impact non-intrusive trails.
