ASLA Highlights "Lessons from Canada"
The American Society of Landscape Architects' blog, THE DIRT, recently featured an online discussion organized by the ASLA Climate & Biodiversity Action Committee and the CSLA. In the session, titled "Local Leadership on Climate and Biodiversity: Lessons from Nunavut, Vancouver, and Toronto," three Canadian landscape architects working in government outlined how they are moving beyond national plans and preparing communities and ecosystems for a changing world.

Participate in a Research Survey
The CSLA, ASLA, and IFLA are launching an improved survey to reflect current AI capabilities and encompass diverse cultural and regional contexts. We will repeat this survey every few years to track long-term adoption and use. Your input is vital for understanding the impact of AI on landscape architecture worldwide.

The first year of the landADAPT program is complete — and what a year it has been. Now, we need your feedback!
Please complete the year one program evaluation survey. Your feedback will help us:
- Identify gaps in research and resources
- Assess the effectiveness of the landADAPT program to date
- Shape future CSLA professional development offerings on climate change and biodiversity
Whether you have attended a landADAPT session yet or not, your input is essential for the CSLA to fulfill the monitoring and evaluation component of our funding agreement with Natural Resources Canada (NRCan).

Call for “Playful” articles for Winter 2025 Landscapes | Paysages
Few of us will be surprised to learn that several reports out across the globe indicate that stress levels are on the rise. For this reason, we decided to take a little break in L/P’s upcoming Winter 2025 issue to look at the concept of play, for all ages, and how some of you may be incorporating this into your work. We have received some great queries and ideas already, but we can still fit in a few more and invite CSLA members, and other interested professionals, to send in their ideas.
We’d like to receive these queries/ideas by the end of the first week of September. Please check out our Call for Submissions or send an email directly to managing editor Laurie Blake at lp@csla-aapc.ca.

Three CSLA Members to sit on 200-Block Banff Avenue Redevelopment Architectural Design Competition Jury
The Royal Architectural Institute Of Canada (RAIC) | L'Institut royal d'architecture du Canada (IRAC has announced the jury panel for the 200-Block Banff Avenue Redevelopment Architectural Design Competition, sponsored by Parks Canada. The jury is comprised of nine professionally qualified individuals including CSLA members Catherine Berris, Naomi Ratte and Janet Rosenberg.
Toronto's Love Park Wins People's Choice at 2025 AZ Awards
The public selected Love Park (CCxA with Gh3* and Arup) as the best in the Landscape Architecture category of the 2025 AZ Awards, which have honoured the best in architecture and design across the globe for 15 years. A total of eight Canadian projects were recognized as winners in this year's competition.
Call for Volunteers: External Review Committee for the BCSLA Fee Guide (ERC)
The BCSLA Professional Fee Guide Subcommittee is calling for volunteers who would like to serve on the External Review Committee (ERC). The Committee will review and provide feedback on the draft BCSLA Fee Guide to ensure it reflects current practice and meets the needs of the profession. We are seeking volunteers to represent the following categories:
- 1 Architect (AIBC)
- 1 Engineer (EGBC)
- 1 Public Sector Landscape Architect (working outside the Lower Mainland)

2025 AAPQ Conference and 60th Anniversary Gala
Prospectives et paysages : imaginer et agir!
Thursday, September 11, 2025 – 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Each year, the AAPQ's annual conference brings together the largest number of landscape architects in Quebec, as well as urban planners, developers, architects, municipal officials, local government representatives, and other professionals involved in the sustainable development of our territories.
This year's theme will explore visions of the future and concrete actions that are transforming our living environments. The conference will feature lectures, Pecha Kucha-style presentations, an exhibitors' fair, and numerous networking opportunities.

The LACF Research Grants are open to submissions exploring new design theories, speculations about new landscape interventions, questioning the current norms of practice, and arguing for new areas of research and professional development, as well as submissions seeking to expand the traditional areas of landscape research.
NEW! LACF has increased the funding amounts available for 2026. Up to $12,500 for the professionals and up to $5,000 for students.

Happy Cities Age- and Dementia-Inclusive Neighbourhood Design Guidelines
Happy Cities recently published a new planning resource on age- and dementia-inclusive neighbourhoods, in partnership with the DemSCAPE project led by Dr. Habib Chaudhury at Simon Fraser University (with funding from the Alzheimer Society of BC and Public Health Agency of Canada).
These new planning and design guidelines offer a free resource that landscape architects and planners can use to learn about and implement age- and dementia-inclusive actions in their communities. The guidelines are available in both a print (PDF) format and a series of interactive, online learning modules.
