Message from the CSLA President and CSLA Executive Director
Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the Board and Committees of the CSLA, we are pleased to release the 2022 CSLA Annual Report, which summarizes the work the association undertook in 2022 in the promotion and advancement of the profession.
Did you know that April was Volunteer Recognition Month? This Annual Report is a testament to the incredible contributions of our volunteers on our Board, Committees, Task Forces, Workgroups and more. The CSLA is made stronger and better because of volunteers who contribute their time, their knowledge and their experience to help achieve our objectives. They work hard for the CSLA and for the membership, however, as President and Executive Director, we also hear how our volunteers enjoy their engagement, and are rewarded by those contributions. For us, there is no greater compliment.
Remember to join us on May 11th at 2 pm ET for our Annual General Meeting where you will hear more about the health of our finances, and the direction of our incoming president, Bob Somers. We hope to see you there.

Register today for the CSLA-SALA 2023 Congress
Join us online for a FREE pre-congress virtual event taking place on May 4th and the in-person event will be in Saskatoon at the TCU Place from June 15-17.
Both the virtual pre-congress event and the in-person congress will feature keynotes you won't want to miss.
Here is a bit about each keynote:
Journalist, author, and podcaster Florence Williams, author of "The Nature Fix", will be presenting her keynote at our free virtual pre-congress event.
Joely BigEagle-Kequahtooway will be presenting the first keynote address at the CSLA-SALA Congress in Saskatoon. In her presentation, Joely will share how her involvement in the Buffalo People Arts Institute (BPAI) inspired the creation of ceremonies focused on matriarchs and the summer and winter solstices.
Candace Savage will be our final keynote at the CSLA-SALA Congress in Saskatoon. Candace is the award-winning author of more than two dozen books for adults and children, and is recognized as a distinctive voice of western Canada.

Industrial tourism is one of the fastest growing segments of the international attraction market. Saturated with museums, zoos and traditional entertainment, many tourists are increasingly looking to delve deeper into tactile experiences that relate directly to their lives and interests. (Cindi Rowan)
The role of identity in placemaking is inherently understood. We strive to build cohesively conceived environments that exude the best qualities of a particular location, reinforcing local natural and cultural heritage. With the rise of experiential tourism, place has become something of a spectacle, harnessed as a means to attract visitors while strengthening local pride-of-place and a desire to welcome visitors with the joy of sharing their way of life (while reaping the economic benefits). The CSLA’s Reconciliation Advisory Committee Call for Volunteers
Do you want to contribute to creating tools and resources to strengthen the understanding of the role of the profession in Reconciliation? In taking action to broaden awareness of Indigenous rights, landscapes and topics? In implementing actions to move the profession towards Reconciliation? To support the schools of landscape architecture in this journey? To engage and partner with Indigenous organizations to advance these objectives?
If so, you may be interested in joining the CSLA’s Reconciliation Advisory Committee.
The CSLA is seeking 2-3 members from all categories of CSLA membership (student, associate and full). Indigenous representation is encouraged, and representation is especially required from British Columbia, the Atlantic Provinces, and the North, and from members who have experience working with Inuit and Northern communities. The term of the mandate is three years (renewable once).
