The Dartmouth Common Master Plan delivers an inspiring vision, prescriptive design framework and clear implementation roadmap for guiding the future development of cherished but largely fragmented urban core Common lands. The master plan established legible precincts that highlight the predominately public nature of activities on Common land and creates a character defining structure by prescribing appropriate uses on the Commons. Highly controversial conflicts rooted in opposing value systems and manifested by competing land uses were mitigated by skillful negotiations, responsive public consultation and innovative design solutions.
