Black History Month 2022

Black History Month is an opportunity to honour the enormous contributions that Black men and women have made and continue to make in all sectors of society. It is a celebration of resilience, innovation, and determination to work towards a more inclusive Canada - one in which everyone has the opportunity to flourish. At the CSLA, we want to honour these noble intentions. As such, I invite us to go even further. In addition to recognizing the extraordinary contributions of our fellow Black Canadians, let us reflect on the actions we can take to make our profession, our community and our world more inclusive and just.

As you know, justice, equity, diversity and inclusion are core values of the CSLA and we are working nationally to create an action plan - these values only have meaning if they are accompanied by concrete actions. The transformations to be achieved require the contribution and commitment of everyone.

LP Call for Submissions - Fall 2022 Edition, "Blink"

Temporary landscapes are exciting and invigorating, providing aesthetic solutions that prompt new ways of understanding our environments and improving the quality of the urban fabric. Temporary interventions challenge the idea of permanence – by promoting creativity and flexible design solutions that provide a perspective on the use of spaces within our built environments, if only for a few fleeting moments.

In this issue of Landscapes | Paysages we invite you to submit articles discussing landscapes that are temporary by design. We are looking to celebrate unique interpretations of temporary phenomena and fleeting experiences.

Deadline for article ideas, abstracts or rough drafts is April 12, 2022. Final draft submission deadline is May 15, 2022.

New book: Spatial Planning for Resilient Economic Diversification by James Dobbin

As the world moves away from fossil fuels, mining-dependent regions that once provided the foundation for employment and economic growth now face the post-mining prospect of economic shock and social upheaval. Economic diversification of these regions is a huge challenge that needs to be addressed as a matter of urgency to enable their transition to a sustainable growth path. "Spatial Planning for Resilient Economic Diversification: La Guajira, Colombia" describes how strategic spatial planning can be used to gain new insights of opportunities and constraints for mining-dependent regions and to develop multisectoral development plans for resilient and sustainable economies.
