Garth Armour is an accomplished Landscape Architect whose love of horticulture and the natural world has guided his life. Since becoming a landscape architect in 1983 he has had a wide variety of positions that have involved many areas of the profession and provided him with a unique perspective on a difficult and complex set of problems. Over the years, he has often been considered a Parks visionary and frequently found himself guiding and participating in projects that required a steady focus, clear vision for the final project, innovation, a sense of humour and a unique ability to go over budget yet still somehow find the necessary funds to complete the task.
Garth’s projects have often won awards and he has been responsible for coordinating dozens of Parks projects. Some of his proudest achievements include overseeing the design and installation of dozens of kilometers of multi use trail initiatives at the Don Valley Brickworks, Humber Bay Shores, Milne Hollow, Lower Don Parklands, and a variety of complex ecological restoration projects. Garth and his team organized the planting of over 200000 trees and shrubs in the expansive Toronto River Valley lands. One of his final projects in the City was to act as co-lead in developing a Toronto Ravine Strategy that will guide the protection and use of natural parklands for future generations to enjoy. In his final capacity at the City, he oversaw the horticulture, greenhouses, conservatories and urban farms for Toronto.
Garth also contributed to a variety of professional and personal projects:
• Councilor at the OALA ending his last year as Vice President.
