Christopher Phillips

Year of Investiture:

Chris Phillips is a founding partner of PFS Studio (formerly Phillips Farevaag Smallenberg), a Vancouver based consulting firm which is well recognized nationally and internationally for landscape architecture, community planning and urban design.

Chris is widely known and respected for his ability to create intelligent and memorable public spaces and community frameworks. He has led many of the firm’s extensive award winning projects which have ranged from large scale master plans to the design of public spaces.

This range of work is demonstrated by projects such as Hastings Park; one of Vancouver’s largest and most complex parks where he shaped multiple master plans and oversaw detailed design phases. At the University of British Columbia’s Vancouver Campus he has been formative in setting the vision for revitalization of the campus through master planning, urban design and the public realm initiatives.

Chris is keenly interested in the integration of context, meaning and program and their collective contribution to the design of public spaces. He is committed to the importance of sustainability and collaboration with community and stakeholders towards placemaking.

He has contributed his ideas and innovative thinking as a volunteer to the Vancouver City Planning Commission, the Vancouver Advisory Urban Design Panel, the Vancouver Public Art Committee and to numerous art and design juries and lectures.
