Direct Service to the Society

Born and raised in Winnipeg, Bev received her Bachelor of Environmental Studies and Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of Manitoba in 1978 and 1983 respectively.  Following graduation, Bev moved to Bermuda in 1984 where she established the first Landscape Architecture Department for Cooper and Gardner Architects, planting the seed for the profession on the Island.

In 1990, Bev moved to Victoria, BC where she worked for Michael Bocking Landscape Architects prior to founding LADR Landscape Architects in 1994.  This set the foundation for a practice that has spanned more than three decades.  As the sole Principal, she inspired and mentored her team, shaping the trajectory of the firm and its work.  In 2021, Bev welcomed her son as a second Principal, shifting her focus toward mentorship, research, and outreach.  Even as she embraced this new chapter, her leadership continues to guide the LADR studio, where she nurtures deep connections with clients, colleagues, and the wider community.

Throughout her career, Bev has remained steadfast in her commitment to tackling some of the most urgent challenges of our time including climate adaptation, mitigation, and disaster resilience.  Through her active involvement in local, provincial, and national committees, she has consistently advocated for a holistic approach—one that addresses climate change not only from an ecological perspective, but through a social lens as well.  In doing so, she underscores the essential connection between climate change, community health, and the power of collaborative action.
