Message from Michelle Legault, CSLA Executive Director
September always feels like a time for a fresh start - reminiscent of the first day of school, when you would be handed a fresh box of perfectly sharpened pencils and other school supplies. For CSLA, September brings committee and board meetings, travel to events, and calls for submissions. Those long summer cottage days and nights will fuel me for the coming year, which has so many exciting projects on its horizon. A Congress shared with OALA in Ottawa at the end of May, school and regional visits, launching LANDadapt (our climate adaptation education program), announcing the 2024 recipient of the Governor General's Medal in Landscape Architecture, launching our cultural landscapes collection, continuing the celebration of our 90th anniversary, and working with component associations - all to advance our profession. I would like to personally thank all the volunteers who are working diligently to serve CSLA members - we, as staff, are lucky to have such dedicated teams who want to support landscape architects in advancing solutions for so many of our global challenges. Here's to another school year, and putting those sharpened pencils to good use.
Michelle

Join the CSLA's Municipal Roundtable
Are you a landscape architect working for a Canadian municipality? If so, we invite you to join the CSLA's Municipal Roundtable. Formed in 2019, the Municipal Roundtable has been a valuable platform for landscape architects working across Canadian municipalities to come together for monthly presentations and discussions on climate change and adaptation. And starting this fall, we’re broadening our scope to explore a wider range of topics that are crucial to public practice landscape architecture.
Kick-off Presentation: September 16
We're excited to begin this year with a presentation on how planners and landscape architects can support a more disability-inclusive and accessible Canada. Don’t miss this opportunity to engage with peers and enhance your practice.

Does your firm wish to receive one copy of LP magazine?
LP magazine is a member benefit and is provided to each individual CSLA member. However, if your team would prefer receiving one copy (or simply less copies) at the firm, please reach out to Rebecca Riordon at coordinator@csla-aapc.ca with the following information, and we will coordinate updating this information with the component associations, who prepare the LP mailing lists:
- number of copies the firm would like to receive
- name and address of the firm
- names of the CSLA members on staff (these members will be removed from the mailing list)
Note that members can be re-instated to the mailing list at any time by contacting their component association. Thank you!
GHG inventory calculation correction: The accurate total GHG footprint for 2022 is 76.22 tCO2e, not 176.46 tCO2e as was stated in the January 2024 bulletin. This error was due to a miscalculation of the quantity of paper used in the production of L|P Magazine. (More details at the bottom of this page.)

GHG inventory calculation: In our January 2024 bulletin, we announced the completion of the CSLA’s certified greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory for the 2022 calendar year. We have since learned that there was an error in the numbers reported. The error was due to a miscalculation of the quantity of paper used in the production of L|P Magazine. The accurate total GHG footprint for 2022 is 76.22 tCO2e, not 176.46 tCO2e as previously stated. Consequently, the carbon emissions associated with printing L|P Magazine accounts for 75% of this footprint, not 93% as previously reported.
We apologize for the error and appreciate your understanding as we continue our commitment to reducing the CSLA’s carbon footprint. Thank you for your ongoing support as we strive to lead by example in reducing our environmental impact.
