Clive Justice Celebration of Life

As most of you know, due to COVID restrictions, the family of Clive Justice was unable to hold an in-person event following his death in December 2020. There have been a few cancellations of planned services in the meantime, including the one scheduled for March 19th.

Please be advised that a celebration of Clive’s life is now planned for SATURDAY, JUNE 18, 2022, to be held at 1:00 PM at the Unitarian Church of Vancouver, 949 West 49th Avenue (at Oak Street), Vancouver, BC. We believe, with the continued loosening of various restrictions (and hopefully the absence of another variant of concern between now and then), that we will be able to hold this event as originally envisioned, and hope that you will be able to join us.

It would be much appreciated if you would please contact karenjustice@shaw.ca to RSVP yea or nay regarding your intention to attend.

Solidarity with Ukraine

The International Federation of Landscape Architect, IFLA, joins as a global community to show our solidarity to the people of Ukraine. Faced with unimaginable disruption and devastation to their cities and countryside, we join the call for peace and the immediate cessation of hostilities.

IFLA represents the global community of landscape architects with membership of national associations in 77 countries and all regions of the world. The destruction of cultural heritage, productive and natural landscapes, and disruption to the economic livelihood and cultural roots of Ukraine's population is to be deplored.

IFLA was established in 1948 to represent the profession of landscape architects globally. Its mission is to advocate for safe, productive, inclusive and healthy environments. As a global organization we unequivocally call for an immediate end to this conflict.

- James Hayter, IFLA President, March 2022

GLOBAL JOB TASK ANALYSIS SURVEY: Call for Volunteers

IFLA, in conjunction with the Council of Landscape Architecture Registration Boards (CLARB), is developing the Global Job Task Analysis research project, an international survey that will be administered to landscape architects around the world.

The project intends to develop an understanding of the practice of landscape architecture around the world and its vital impact to the health, safety and well-being of the worlds people, places, and environment. We look to understand practice globally, regionally and by country. Geographical representation in both the development of and the completion of the survey is vital to the success of this ground-breaking research.

IFLA is calling to volunteers to join the task force for the Job Task Analysis Survey. We are looking for practitioners of an IFLA member association to participate in this crucial project. The task force will be integrated by two members of each IFLA Region.

If you are interested fill in the form and send it to chair.cer@iflaworld.org with Cc to admin@iflaworld.org.

Call to Support Preservation of Michael Hough’s Ontario Place Landscape

Designed by Michael Hough (landscape architecture) and Eberhard Zeidler (architecture), and opened to the public in 1971, Ontario Place stands as a vital marker of modernist design, professing design values of publicity and openness. However, despite its value as a critical modernist icon, the future of Ontario Place is under threat.

This research, documents the value, history, and ongoing presence of Michael Hough’s landscape design on the site, demonstrating that approximately 40% of original planted trees remain, alongside significant remaining materials and design elements. The research was conducted by the University of Toronto Daniels Faculty, and was supported by the Architectural Conservancy Ontario with a generous donation by Professor George Baird.

These features support the preservation of Ontario Place as a cultural heritage landscape. Take action by writing a letter to the Government of Ontario, citing your affiliation with the CSLA here.
