The Musée maritime du Québec (Maritime Museum of Quebec) holds one of Canada’s finest collections of maritime heritage materials. With its Parc Fluvial (river park), it now boasts a permanent, entirely outdoor exhibit celebrating Canadian maritime history. Landscape architecture is central to the project’s design, planning and project management strategies; it informed the approach to advising the client and collaborating with restoration experts. The park comprises a large grouping of custom-made elements that proudly showcase some of the museum’s most treasured artifacts. Each element is designed to bridge the divide between architecture and landscape architecture; the garden of anchors or the garden of propellers stand as prime examples. The river park is a place that truly honours Canadian maritime history and the seafaring families of L’Islet. Its exceptional quality and attractiveness have sparked great pride in the community, attracted numerous tourists and school groups, and won the support of new corporate donors and partners. Stylishness, solemnity and the showcasing of prized artifacts: these were the three guiding principles for the creation of the Parc Fluvial du Musée maritime du Québec.
