Join us for the 2022 CSLA-APALA Congress Webinar Series

Join us for the continuation of the 2022 CSLA-APALA Congress fall webinar series in just a few weeks. This webinar series follows our Congress programming earlier this year and will expand on our theme: Inspiration. 

Beginning this September, we will be kicking off our first webinar in the series with Jonathan Cha presenting " Un parc à réinventer pour la ville de demain. La vision d’aménagement 2020-2030 du parc Jean-Drapeau " on September 8th at 3pm ET. 

Our fall webinar series will consist of 8 webinars taking place between September 2022 and January 2023. See the full list of webinars and speakers.

Your registration will include access to all of the webinars, Congress recordings from the June, 2022, event, including keynote speakers, technical sessions and more.

Cultural Landscapes - Call for Contributions 

The CSLA’s Committee on Cultural Landscapes and Legacy wishes to create an online collection of significant cultural landscapes across Canada.

Ultimately, the goal of this project is to create a collection of 25 places that exemplify the wide range of cultural landscape treasures across Canada by 2024.

The CSLA invites its members and component associations to participate in this open consultation period which will be followed by a workshop to be held from 1 to 3 pm ET on 20 September 2022 via Zoom.

In memoriam: Lawrence Ralph Paterson, AALA, FCSLALawrence Ralph Paterson

Larry died of lung cancer on June 22, 2022. He was 78 years old. Larry was a founding member of the Winnipeg based firm Dunbar Paterson and Rose. The company was active in the late 70’s and 80’s. Larry moved to Alberta and worked for a number of private firms. At the time of his death Larry was the sole proprietor of Paterson Design. Larry’s dedication to the field of landscape architecture is evident through his many designs constructed across Canada. Solutions grounded in site and environment. Larry was a past president of the CSLA and past secretary/ executive director of the CSLA. Larry was also a member of the College of Fellows. His volunteerism is well documented in the annals of the CSLA.

Larry was also an avid sport car driver and racer. Larry is survived by his wife of 27 years Linda LeGeyt. Larry’s jovial presence will be missed by many.

Coming up: Thriving Forest & Regenerative Built Environments Event 

When: September 14-15, 2022 
Time: 9:00AM - 1:00 PM PT / 12:00PM - 4:00PM ET 

The first event of its kind hosted by the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC) and Pilot Projects  Collaborative (Wood at Work).  

This September, join us online for this important symposium that will engage participants on multi disciplinary questions surrounding relationships between forest legacies past and future, and the design, construction, and stewardship of our built environments.  

A series of experts will discuss topics such as Indigenous perspectives on sustainable forestry, the carbon sequestration potential of Canadian forests and wood products, community perspectives on regenerative built environments, and the roles that architects can play in integrating these considerations into their practices.
