Mr. Brian Baker received his Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree from University of Guelph in 1975. Upon graduation, he traveled to Calgary, Alberta and worked for several design firms before joining Landplan Associates in 1981. Brian collaborated on various projects with Garth Balls at Landplan and over the next few decades they made significant contributions to the community and the profession. In 2008 Landplan Associates joined IBI Group, where Brian continues work in the landscape architecture and urban design sector.
Brian's professional focus has been in design, and he has undertaken many notable projects for both public and private sector clients. While with Landplan, the firm has been honoured with many professional planning and design awards by the CSLA, ASLA and other institutions. Landplan received a City of Calgary Mayor's Urban Design Award and a CSLA National Honor Award for Shaw Millennium Park, a dynamic urban park in downtown Calgary. At IBI Group Brian has been involved with projects such as Spring Creek Mountain Village in Canmore and the University District, an urban infill mixed-use community, which achieved LEED Canada Neighbourhood Design, Platinum designation in 2016.
Brian has also been an active participant with the Alberta Association of Landscape Architects. He has been on the executive and acted as director several times and participated on numerous committees. He served as AALA President in 1996-97.
