André Nadeau, a landscape architect who earned his bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture from the University of Montreal in 1983, is the founder of OPTION aménagement, a firm he established in 1997. His career, which began in 1983, led him to hold strategic roles at renowned multidisciplinary firms, including Dessau Inc., before establishing an independent practice known for its rigor and sensitivity to the environment.
Specializing in urban design, master planning, and sustainable development, André Nadeau leads complex projects from feasibility studies through to full completion. His approach is distinguished by the integration of sustainable development principles, strict adherence to budgets and timelines, and a constant focus on the identity, heritage, and social character of the sites. Among his iconic projects are the Promenade Samuel-De Champlain and René-Lévesque Boulevard, Place George V in Quebec City, the redevelopment of Lasalle Boulevard and downtown Baie-Comeau, the Rivière-au-Renard waterfront promenade in Quebec’s maritime fishing capital, the Rimouski breakwater, as well as numerous cultural, institutional, and heritage projects throughout Quebec.
A certified member of the Association des architectes paysagistes du Québec (AAPQ) and the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects (CSLA) since 1984, he has been deeply involved in the profession and the community. Notably, he served as vice-president of the AAPQ (2001–2005), president of the Neufchâtel Est–Lebourgneuf Neighborhood Council and of the Urban Planning Advisory Commission for the Rivières Borough in Quebec City (2002–2006), as well as a director of ZIP Québec–Chaudière-Appalaches, working to protect the ecosystems of the St. Lawrence River.
His exceptional contribution to the profession has been recognized by numerous awards, including the prestigious Frederick Todd Award from the AAPQ in 2016. His projects have also received several national awards from the AAPC, highlighting the excellence of his work in landscape architecture and urban design. Through the scale, quality, and scope of his achievements, André Nadeau makes a significant contribution to the creation of sustainable, meaningful, and deeply human living environments.
