The schoolyard-landscaping project for Nouvelle-Querbes primary school in Montréal is the result of a working group involving Fauteux and Associates and a "green schoolyard" committee made up of students, parents and alternative from the school, the Outremont (Montréal) neighbourhood and the community. The school, a leader in education, wanted a yard that reflected its philosophy: innovative, green and sustainable. The architectural design took its cue from the school's educational project: provide a space for discovery that awakens children’s creativity and helps develop their autonomy. The landscape becomes both a playground and multipurpose area that strengthens the appreciation of the environment.
With landscaping fostering proximity to nature and an exemplary environmental character, this flagship project rapidly mobilized the whole community with something for everyone: improvement of children's quality of life, greening, sustainable development, measures to ease traffic and promotion of active transportation.
