CSLA Welcomes Megan Andre as Executive Director
Following a national search and robust recruitment process, Megan Andre has agreed to join CSLA as Executive Director on September 21, 2026.
"Megan brings more than 20 years of experience as a professional, organizational leader, and relationship builder. Throughout her career, she has led initiatives spanning conservation, land stewardship, team leadership, and professional association governance, contributing to work focused on ecosystem restoration, regulatory compliance, and organizational change.
Please join me and the CSLA Board in welcoming Megan to her new role and in expressing our appreciation to Michelle Legault as she concludes her tenure as Executive Director and enjoys her well-deserved retirement."

The landADAPT Online Course is Now Available
The self-paced landADAPT online course is now available! Register now and follow along with your colleagues in September.
How to register for the course:
- Visit the Climate Risk Institute's Moodle platform to register or log in.
- Select the course: landADAPT (English) or ADAPTerre (French).
- Enroll.
Finish the course and receive a certificate for your continuing education requirements.
Starting September 8 and running weekly, we'll spotlight one module per week on social media, wrapping up with a live virtual discussion discussion on October 27.
Call for Nominations: 2027 Class of Fellows
Election to the College of Fellows is one of the highest honours bestowed on members of the CSLA. Its purpose is to recognize achievement, further the high quality of the profession, mentor other professionals and work to benefit the community.

Call for Submissions: 2027 National Urban Design Awards
The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC), the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP), and the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects (CSLA) are pleased to launch the call for submissions for the 2027 National Urban Design Awards.
Submission Deadline: January 11, 2027, at 10:00 p.m. ET.
Landscapes | Paysages Summer 2026: Excellence
"We are growing as landscape architects: developing more leadership, innovation, thoughtfulness and awareness. We are recognized as valid contributors to projects that may not have previously involved a landscape architect, and we are leading significant multidisciplinary projects. This summer, the CSLA added seven new sites to the Cultural Landscapes Legacy Collection, spanning the country from the Red River Corridor in Winnipeg to the Bouctouche Dunes Boardwalk in New Brunswick.

Strategic Missions & Advocacy
Monitoring Trade War Impacts on the Profession
The CSLA is closely monitoring the ongoing Canada-U.S. trade war and its potential impacts on landscape architects across the country. Last week, staff attended a Tariff Talks webinar hosted by the CSAE, which provided a thorough overview of the current situation and the sectors expected to be most affected.
When asked specifically about impacts on professional services, the presenter noted that while there is concern the trade war could escalate from products to services, no new regulations or boycotts on professional services have been introduced by either country to date. Buy Canada policies currently in place at the federal, provincial, and municipal levels have not yet been reciprocated in the United States.
The CSLA will continue to monitor developments over the coming weeks. To help inform the CSLA's response and advocacy, we invite members to complete a short survey (five questions, under two minutes) on how the trade war has affected their work and what support the CSLA can provide.
CSLA Community of Public Practitioners (CoPP)
The CSLA is launching a Community of Public Practitioners (CoPP), a program connecting landscape architects, and emerging and allied professionals, working in public practice and academia across the country. Formerly known as the Municipal Roundtable, the CoPP is built to help you learn from one another: a space to share what you're working on, hear how others are approaching similar problems, and build a network of peers across the country.
The first meeting will take place on October 7th.

Submit your project for a 2027 LACF Research Grant
Design, Speculate, Postulate, Question, Research, Theorize, Explore
The LACF Research Grants Program funds a wide range of research and communications projects, including practical applied design research in topics such as ecology, climate change adaptation, social justice, reconciliation and decolonization and public education and awareness, amongst other topics. This program focuses on funding projects with national relevance in the discipline of landscape architecture.
The LACF Research Grants are open to submissions exploring new design theories, speculations about new landscape interventions, questioning the current norms of practice, and arguing for new areas of research and professional development, as well as submissions seeking to expand the traditional areas of landscape research.

Workshop: Crime Prevention Though Environmental Design for Heritage Institutions
The Canadian Conservation Institute is hosting an advanced professional development workshop “Crime Prevention Though Environmental Design (CPTED) for Heritage Institutions”. We welcome landscape architects who have worked on, or will be working on a project related to heritage institutions, to apply to join us in Ottawa from November 17 to 19, 2026, to discover how to discourage undesirable activity at heritage institutions and make sure staff and visitors feel safe, while enhancing security for collections.

The Persian Garden Suite International Architectural Design Competition invites architects and artists from around the world to explore contemporary interpretations of the Persian garden through architecture, landscape, culture, and public space.
