Ian’s practice of landscape architecture and urban design is based on principles of sustainability and design excellence, creating places for communities to use and enjoy.
After graduating from Ryerson University in 1980, Ian joined ENVision - the Hough Group, and became a partner in 1991. He was accepted as a member of the OALA and CSLA in 1985, and the ASLA in 1995. He has been a member of the OALA’s Ethics Review Panel since 1995, and lectures and reviews student work at local universities. Today, Ian is a partner at Dillon Consulting, leading the firm’s landscape architectural team.
Ian practices throughout Canada and internationally, directing multidisciplinary teams and providing innovative, award winning designs to public and private sector clients. His projects include the Toronto’s Bay Adelaide Centre Plaza, the award winning Lake Wilcox Park in Richmond Hill, the McMaster Health Care Facility Streetscape, the Hotel X Gardens in Toronto, and Confederation Park in Charlottetown, PEI. His international experience is best exemplified by his work on the Children’s Environmental Park in Seoul, South Korea, and the Jubail Waterfront and Urban Design Master Plan.
Ian's practice is characterized through his thoughtful integration of ecology, heritage and community. His projects demonstrate dynamic, attractive and revitalized landscapes and urban places. These built environments are important components of building healthy and interesting communities.
