The Vimy Foundation Centennial Park Inaugurated

Group Photo with PM.jpegOn November 9, 2018, the Vimy Foundation Centennial Park was inaugurated on Vimy Ridge in France in close proximity to the Vimy Memorial which has been placed on the UNESCO tentative list of World Heritage Sites. CSLA Fellow Linda Dicaire was present at the ceremonies. Linda is the designer of the 4 acre Vimy Foundation Centennial Park and of all its symbolic features including the Vimy Bench. The memorable benches were made by Hauser in Waterloo. The sculpture of the Bugler is by Canadian artist Marlene Hilton-Moore, artist of the Valiants on Confederation Square, Ottawa. The Park was built by the French entreprise SNB Colas. Future phases of planting and commemorative art are planned.

Vimy Centennial Park and Vimy Bench.jpegDuring the inauguration a special flag that flew on the Peace Tower on April 9, 2017 fluttered on its mast. The park planting rests on the Vimy Oaks with their own story tied to the Battle of Vimy Ridge in WW1, and their incredible journey to Canada and then, 100 years later, back to France.

The Vimy Foundation charitable fund-raising drive towards Centennial Park is on-going. Photos and information are found on https://www.vimyfoundation.ca/purchase-centennial-tree/

CSW Landscape Architects collaborated with Linda to produce the 3D renderings for the Vimy Foundation.
