Mr. Alan Duncan graduated with a B.L.A. from the University of Guelph in 1973 and a M.A. (Planning) from UBC in 1990. He was accepted as a member of the AALA and CSLA in 1982, CIP in 1992, and BCSLA in 1994.

In 2001, Alan was first recipient of the BCSLA Public Practice Award, he was elected Vice-Chair of the College of Fellows in 2014 and he recieved the BCSLA Exceptional Contribution Award in 2016.

Alan has worked across Canada but since 1989, he worked with the City of Vancouver.  In the Planning Department, he coordinated such landscape policy and public realm projects as regulation of pnvate property trees and the Ridgeway Greenway, both which received CSLA recognition for innovation, and the Wellness Walkway project which received a PIBC award for excellence in planning. In 2004, Alan was appointed as first Environmental Planner in the Vancouver Park Board where he worked on a wide array of park planning and design initiatives

Alan has a long history in grassroots community celebration planning, production and performance. He co-initiated the annual Winter Solstice Parade in Toronto's Kensington Market and co-founded the Vancouver-based Public Dreams Society.  He was on the organizing committee of the International Ornithological Congress 2018 and a key organizer of the inaugural Vancouver International Bird Festival and Birds on Parade! held in conjunction with the congress.
