The Casa Montessori & Orff school has moved to a new location in an industrial area seven years ago.

The spatial concept hints at the postglacial history of Manitoba’s ‘landscape biography’.

This project achieves beauty and learning through the life and health of a ‘non-domesticated’ environment.

There is room for gardens, asphalt art, performances, and ball games between drop off and pick up time.

The complex topography encourages children to go on playful expeditions.

Children, parents and teachers work together on the Veggie Hill to cultivate their gardens.

The delicately sculpted modelling of the earth makes the Kids Nest into a remarkable spatial experience.

Materials and spaces are activated and deactivated by the children.

The minimalist elements of this ‘eventful’ framework invite a broad range of interpretations and interests.

We applied our notion of ‘Radical Play’ through spatial design practice.

If you believe in childish creativity it doesn’t take much to provide a stage for illusions and sustainable learning.

The dream was to design a playground for the children's physical, mental, emotional and spiritual growth.

There is no conventional play structure and we feel it is not needed.

The physical transformation of the Montessori’s outdoor play space is built on the belief in childish experimentation and creativity. Materials and spaces are activated and deactivated by the children, fluctuating freely between permanence, messiness, and a sense of the temporary. The golden rule is finding beauty in spontaneity and imperfection.
