This project consisted on development of a technical manual intended to provide design and technical guidelines to achieve universal accessibility in the design of outdoor spaces. Design solutions presented in this manual comply with the CSA B651-04 Accessible design for the built environment, but addresses a varieety of outdoor conditions found in the Canada's Capital Region. The manual, however, applies across Canada.
The document was prepared by the National Capital Commission in 2010-2011 in support of its Policy on Universal Accessibility.
This document was prepared by landscape architects to provide universal accessibility design guidance in a wide range of outdoor applications. The guidelines address the needs of users no matter what their level of ability and mobility. It demonstrates how accessible spaces can be designed by integrating universal accessibility rather than separating it from other site functions. It provies a set of best practices in both official languages.
