Submit an abstract for the 2022 CSLA-APALA Congress
The Canadian Society of Landscape Architects (CSLA) together with the Atlantic Provinces Association of Landscape Architects (APALA) invite qualified experts to submit abstracts for presentations and sessions to be presented at the upcoming 2022 CSLA-APALA Congress and virtual pre-conference event.
Summary of the November CSLA Board Meeting Decisions
1. Cynthia Graham was appointed Chair of the Finance and Risk Management Committee for 2022.
2. The 90th Anniversary Task Force was tasked with exploring a commemorative coin to celebrate the CSLA's 90th anniversary.
3. The CSLA Board began reviewing the goals of the 2021-2023 Strategic Plan
4. A proposal by Vineland Laboratories to undertake the review of Section 5 (Soils) of the Canadian Landscape Standard was approved.
5. Revisions to the Audit Policy were approved
6. Revisions to the Congress policy were approved
7. Revisions to the Board Manual were approved

Save Our Rand Estate Receives Margaret and Nicholas Hill Cultural Heritage Landscape Award
The Margaret and Nicholas Hill Cultural Heritage Landscape Award recognizes an individual, group, and/or community action project (as opposed to a professional commission) that has endeavoured to preserve a significant Cultural Heritage Landscape, or has worked to raise awareness of, and appreciation for a significant Cultural Heritage Landscape as defined by the Ontario Heritage Trust.

'Making meaningful places': Claude Cormier landscape architecture award launched at U of T's Daniels faculty
Claude Cormier has made a $500,000. commitment to his alma mater, the Daniels Faculty to establish The Claude Cormier Award in Landscape Architecture. Each year, a remarkable student in the final year of the Faculty's Masters in Landscape Architecture (MLA) program will receive the scholarship, covering their final year of domestic tuition. Cormier hopes that this will enable the student to pursue research or travel opportunities that will enhance their studies, and similar to the Cornelia Hahn Oberlander Prize, the scholarship will also help to bolster recognition of the landscape architecture profession.

Perspective of Municipal Staff and Design Professionals on Urban Forest Canopy in Canadian Municipal Parks

You are invited to participate in a research study conducted by Dr. Cecil Konijnendijk at Forest Resource Management of the University of British Columbia. The results of this research will assist with knowledge of urban forest canopy in municipal parks. This study's primary objective is to analyze current and emerging trends of park planning and design in Canadian municipalities and understand if and how urban forest canopy targets are integrated. Moreover, the study aims to identify potential trade-offs and synergies between urban forest canopy targets and other urban park programming demands. If you volunteer to participate in this study, you will be asked to complete an online survey that includes 15 questions.
Engineers Canada Envisioning exercise Survey
As part of Envisioning, Engineers Canada is collecting new perspectives on the challenges and potential opportunities in engineering. The purpose is to prepare for the future and potentially drive significant long-term change.

The Grand Winners of the GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN in Architecture, Landscape & Territory and Construction & Real Estate were unveiled Saturday, September 18th at the Manège Militaire in Quebec City. Julie Bargmann Wins Cornelia Hahn Oberlander International Landscape Architecture Prize
The Cultural Landscape Foundation (TCLF) announced Julie Bargmann as the winner of the inaugural Cornelia Hahn Oberlander Landscape Architecture Prize. The biennial $100,000 award is bestowed on a recipient who, according to the TCLF, is “exceptionally talented, creative, courageous, and visionary” and has “a significant body of built work that exemplifies the art of landscape architecture.”
