In 2013, the CSLA formed a Position Papers Working Group. The purpose of this group is to coordinate the process for producing position papers for the CSLA.
What is a position paper?
The objectives of a position paper are to generate support on an issue – for the CSLA, to promote the profession of landscape architecture by educating the public, government and other interested parties on issues seen through the lens of the profession. A position paper should be based on factual evidence and provide solid foundations for an argument. Position papers range from the simplest format of a letter to the editor through to the most complex in the form of an academic position paper.
Position papers should be easy to read and understand. The targeted audience for these papers should not be landscape architects. Rather, the targeted audience should be the general public, allied professions, government organizations, municipalities and not-for-profits. The intent of the paper should be to provide professional opinion and advice on matters of importance (nationally and locally).

If you belive the CSLA should take a position on an issue which is important to the profession, follow these steps:
Draft a 250 word abstract on the issue, indicating its relevance and the point of view recommended to the CSLA
Submit the abstract to the Position Papers Working Group by emailing it to Michelle Legault, CSLA Executive Director
The Position Papers Working Group will review the request.
What will the CSLA do with the position paper?
An outreach and communications strategy will be developed for each position paper to ensure that specific and relevant groups are targeted. This strategy will be developed in conjunction with the CLSA Executive Director, which could include presentations to allied professions, parliamentarians, etc.
